The deadline for Uttar Pradesh’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists falls today, December 11, 2025, but Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa has requested a two-week extension from the Election Commission. The move comes as district election officers continue verifying records to update the voter list accurately, especially for deceased, relocated, or inactive voters.
Rinwa cited the need for thorough verification of uncollected forms, which constitute 18.85% of all entries. These include voters who are deceased, permanently shifted, absent, or registered elsewhere. Officials said about 2.91 crore forms remain uncollected, highlighting the scale of the challenge in completing the revision on time.
Pressure on booth-level officers (BLOs) has been a significant factor prompting the extension request. Several BLOs reportedly faced undue stress, and incidents of suicide were linked to the intense workload. Political parties also requested more time, emphasizing the need for careful completion of the SIR process without overburdening staff.

Digitisation of voter records has been largely completed, with 99.24% of enumeration forms digitised. Approximately 80.29% of forms have been returned with voter or family signatures, while 0.62% of voters received counting forms but have not returned them. The CEO has instructed officers to expedite the mapping process and encourage unregistered or missing voters to submit Form 6.
The SIR process also includes preparing for new voters turning 18 on January 1, 2026. Digitisation of counting forms has been completed in 14 districts, covering 132 assembly constituencies and 143,509 polling stations. The CEO has urged political parties to help verify records marked as deceased, shifted, or duplicate.
Booth-level agents will receive the collected voter lists by December 12, and the lists will also be publicly available on the CEO and district election officers’ websites. Officials emphasized that careful verification is crucial to maintain electoral accuracy ahead of upcoming elections.
