An 11-year-old boy, Shadan, allegedly died by suicide in Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh, on Wednesday after his father, Nisar, scolded him for skipping school, police reported. The tragic incident occurred in Mohalla Milkian, Kiratpur, where Shadan faced reprimand for repeatedly missing classes. Distraught, he left home and did not return.
After a frantic search, his family discovered his body that evening, hanging from a hook on a wall in a nearby vacant plot, said Kiratpur Station House Officer Virendra Kumar. The body was sent for a post-mortem, and an investigation is underway to ascertain the full circumstances.
This incident sheds light on the growing concern over mental health among children in India, where academic pressure and familial expectations can take a heavy toll.

Experts note that children as young as 11 may struggle to cope with criticism or stress, especially in environments lacking emotional support. Data from the National Crime Records Bureau (2022) indicates that Uttar Pradesh reported over 1,500 suicides among minors in recent years, often linked to academic or familial issues.
Mental health professionals urge parents and schools to foster open communication and recognize signs of distress in children. Community awareness programs and counseling services are critical to preventing such tragedies, emphasizing the need for early intervention and support systems.
