A 37-year-old dhaba owner, Deepender, was shot dead inside his eatery in Jatauli Mandi, Pataudi, late Tuesday night, in what police suspect was a targeted killing driven by old enmity.
Three masked assailants, arriving on a motorcycle around midnight, entered the roadside ‘Jhopdi Hotel’ under the pretense of buying cold drinks. They fired six to seven rounds at Deepender, killing him instantly before fleeing, according to a senior police officer.
The attack, reported at 12:15 am, prompted a swift response from Pataudi police, who found Deepender’s body riddled with bullets. Despite checking CCTV footage from nearby areas, investigators faced challenges as the dhaba’s cameras were non-functional.

“We’re exploring personal enmity as the primary motive, but no suspects have been identified yet,” said Inspector Satish Kumar, SHO of Pataudi police station. A case has been registered under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act, with teams scanning footage and questioning locals.
The killing follows a pattern of violent incidents in Gurugram linked to personal grudges, such as a 2020 brick kiln owner’s murder in Sohna. Deepender’s family, devastated, offered no specific leads on rivals.
The incident has heightened local concerns about safety, with residents urging stricter patrols. As police intensify their manhunt, the motive remains under investigation, underscoring Gurugram’s recurring challenge with targeted crimes.
