Sambhal police team descended on the south Delhi residence of celebrity hairstylist Jawed Habib on Wednesday, armed with a search warrant in a sprawling investment fraud probe implicating the famed salon mogul in a Rs 7 crore scam that allegedly duped over 150 investors, only to find the A-292 New Friends Colony address eerily empty, with Superintendent of Police Krishan Bishnoi declaring Habib as absconding and evading interrogation since the scheme unraveled, now facing the looming threat of a non-bailable warrant if he fails to comply with summons issued for October 12.
The case centers on allegations that Habib, alongside his son Anos Habib and associate Saiful, orchestrated a fraudulent operation under the banner of Follicle Global Company, enticing victims with promises of 50-70% returns on Bitcoin investments by collecting Rs 5-7 lakh per person, only to leave 33 complainants—who have filed formal FIRs—empty-handed after two and a half years without a single rupee returned, prompting authorities to register 32 FIRs at Raia Satti Police Station and issue a lookout notice to bar Habib and his family from fleeing India, as investigators intensify efforts to unravel the full scope of the deception that leveraged Habib’s star power to lure unsuspecting investors.
Bishnoi revealed that Habib dodged a scheduled questioning by sending his lawyer, Pawan Kumar, who cited the stylist’s poor health with medical documents but failed to produce critical records demanded by the probe, further fueling suspicions of deliberate obstruction, while the scale of the alleged fraud—potentially affecting hundreds more yet to come forward—has cast a shadow over Habib’s glittering career, once synonymous with transforming India’s hairstyling landscape through his eponymous salon chain, now tainted by accusations of exploiting trust for financial gain in a saga that threatens to redefine his legacy amid a relentless police pursuit.
