In a shocking double-layered crime, a man allegedly killed three members of his own family over a property dispute before being murdered by his accomplice during a fallout over the division of stolen valuables in Prayagraj, police said on Wednesday. The incident has left the South Malaka locality under Kotwali police station limits reeling, with investigators describing it as a case involving both intra-family violence and betrayal among co-conspirators. Authorities have arrested one accused and recovered stolen valuables from his possession.
According to Police Commissioner Jogendra Kumar, the bodies of Virendra Vaishya (70), his wife Anita (65), and their daughter Meenakshi (45) were discovered inside a residential property on Tuesday. The victims were reportedly found in different parts of the house, prompting immediate forensic examination and a detailed crime scene investigation. The discovery led officers to suspect a planned and targeted attack rather than a spontaneous act of violence.
Police later found the body of the family’s son, Abhishek Vaishya (40), in a shop located on the ground floor of the same building. Investigators believe Abhishek was involved in the killings of his parents and sister, allegedly motivated by a long-standing dispute over property ownership. His friend Sunny Gupta is also suspected of assisting in the crime, according to preliminary findings shared by the police.

Investigators said Abhishek allegedly called Gupta to his home before the attack and together they planned the murders after being reportedly disowned by Virendra Vaishya and his wife over inheritance issues. The killings are believed to have taken place on the evening of May 31, with all three family members being murdered inside the residence. Police say the case reflects a premeditated conspiracy driven by financial conflict.
After the murders, Abhishek and Gupta allegedly attempted to divide valuables taken from the house, but a dispute broke out between them during the process. Police said Gupta then allegedly killed Abhishek inside the shop on the ground floor and left the body there before locking the premises and fleeing the scene. The betrayal added a second layer of violence to the already brutal crime.
Sunny Gupta was later arrested after CCTV footage analysis helped police track his movements. Officers also recovered approximately one to two grams of gold and around 360 grams of silver from his possession. Police confirmed that further investigation is underway to establish the full sequence of events and any additional involvement, while the case continues to draw widespread shock in the region.
