The Budget Session of Parliament is likely to commence on January 28, 2025, according to officials familiar with the tentative schedule approved by the Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs. The session will mark the beginning of Parliament’s legislative business for the year and set the stage for key economic and policy discussions.
As per established parliamentary convention, President Droupadi Murmu will address a joint sitting of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha on January 28. The President’s address traditionally outlines the government’s priorities and agenda for the year ahead, forming the basis for subsequent debates in both Houses.

The two Houses of Parliament are not expected to meet on January 29 due to the Beating Retreat ceremony. Meanwhile, the Economic Survey, which provides an overview of the state of the economy and serves as a precursor to the Budget, is likely to be tabled on January 30. Parliament will also not sit on January 31.
The Union Budget for 2025 is scheduled to be presented on February 1, which falls on a Sunday. The Budget presentation is among the most significant annual events in Parliament, as it details the government’s revenue, expenditure, taxation proposals, and overall economic strategy for the coming financial year.
Following debates on the Motion of Thanks to the President’s address and discussions on the Union Budget, Parliament is expected to adjourn for a month-long recess on February 13. The session will then reconvene on March 9 and is likely to conclude on April 2, a Thursday, considering that Good Friday falls on April 3.
The recess during the Budget Session allows department-related standing committees to scrutinize the demands for grants of various Union ministries and departments. Their reports play a crucial role in shaping detailed budgetary discussions when Parliament resumes for the final phase of the session.
