A devastating fire broke out at a fertiliser plant near Sametra village in Gujarat’s Mehsana district in the early hours of Sunday, September 14, 2025, claiming the lives of two workers and leaving two others injured. The blaze, which erupted around 3 AM, engulfed the facility during the night shift, trapping workers in a deadly inferno. Police and fire brigade teams rushed to the scene, but the tragedy has left the local community in shock and raised questions about workplace safety at the plant.
According to a Mehsana rural police station official, the fire resulted in the deaths of two workers, identified as Manish from Bihar and Fulchand from Maharashtra, who were charred beyond recognition. Two other workers sustained severe burn injuries and were promptly rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation, with authorities yet to determine whether it was sparked by equipment failure, human error, or other factors.
Mehsana fire department officials reported that a team of firefighters battled the blaze for approximately an hour before bringing it under control. At the time of the incident, six workers were present at the plant. The charred remains of the deceased were recovered after the fire was extinguished and have been sent for postmortem examination to ascertain further details.

The incident has sparked outrage among workers’ families and local residents, who are demanding a thorough probe into the safety protocols at the fertiliser plant. Preliminary reports suggest that the facility may have lacked adequate fire safety measures, though officials have not yet confirmed this. The injured workers are receiving medical care, but their condition remains critical, according to hospital sources.
Police have launched a detailed investigation to uncover the circumstances leading to the fire, with forensic teams examining the site for clues. The tragedy underscores the urgent need for stricter safety regulations in industrial units, particularly in high-risk sectors like chemical and fertiliser production. As the community mourns the loss of Manish and Fulchand, calls are growing for accountability and measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
