Two commandos of the CRPF’s CoBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action) unit were injured in an IED explosion in Bijapur district, Chhattisgarh, police confirmed on Monday. The blast occurred during a joint anti-Naxal operation involving the Special Task Force (STF) and District Reserve Guard (DRG) in the Farsegarh police station area.
The explosion took place on Sunday afternoon while the security personnel were cordoning off forested areas between Farsegarh and Pillur Kandlaparti. Both CoBRA personnel suffered minor injuries and were immediately shifted to a hospital in Raipur, where officials reported their condition as stable and out of danger.
Naxalites frequently plant IEDs along forest paths, dirt tracks, and rural roads in the Bastar region to target security forces, with civilians occasionally falling victim to these explosives. On December 12, a rural woman was injured in a similar blast, prompting local authorities to urge villagers to report any suspicious objects in the forest.

This incident adds to a growing list of IED-related attacks and seizures across the region this year. Notable incidents include a CRPF jawan injured in Sukma in November, several villagers and security personnel injured in Bijapur during October and August, and multiple large IED caches recovered in Abujmarh and Bijapur between August and September.
Security forces continue to intensify counter-Naxal operations in the region despite the risks, employing CoBRA, STF, and DRG units to dismantle explosive devices and apprehend militants. Authorities are also increasing awareness campaigns to prevent civilian casualties and ensure timely reporting of suspicious objects.
The persistent use of IEDs by Naxalites underscores the ongoing threat in Chhattisgarh’s interior districts, highlighting the need for heightened vigilance and coordinated action by both state and central security agencies.
