A 12-year-old boy, Karanjot Singh, lost his life, and eight others were injured in a devastating accident in Possi village near Garhshankar on Friday night, police reported. The tragedy unfolded when a car overturned after colliding with three motorcycle-borne snatchers fleeing a robbery. The incident occurred on the road toward Mahilpur, sending shockwaves through the local community.
Mahilpur Station House Officer Sub-Inspector Ramandeep Kaur detailed that the snatchers had just robbed Amandeep Kaur, a resident of Paddi Sura Singh village, of her earrings near Moranwali village. Amandeep and her husband, Ranjit Singh, were returning home on a scooter when the trio intercepted them, snatched the jewelry, and sped off. Moments later, their motorcycle crashed into a car carrying five passengers, identified as Lovepreet Singh, Anu, Sonia Rani, Jugraj Singh, and Harpreet Singh, all from Dhade Kalan.
The collision caused the car to overturn, injuring all five occupants and the three snatchers. Karanjot Singh, a passenger in the car, succumbed to his injuries. The injured were rushed to Garhshankar’s Civil Hospital, with two critically injured victims transferred to hospitals in Hoshiarpur for advanced care. The snatchers, identified as Rahul Kumar and Rohan from Chabbewal, along with an unidentified accomplice, are also hospitalized.

Police have launched an investigation, collecting CCTV footage and witness statements to track the sequence of events. The incident highlights rising concerns over reckless crime and road safety in the region.
