On July 13, 2025, a devastating accident on the Indore-Betul National Highway near Mokhapipalya village in Madhya Pradesh’s Dewas district claimed two lives when a car plunged into the Kalisindh River. The vehicle, en route from Madurai to Indore, veered off a dilapidated culvert after the driver lost control while navigating a narrow passage alongside an oncoming truck, police said.
The deceased, identified as OP, 40, from Amritsar, and Anand Raj, 40, from Indore, were seated in the front. Two rear passengers, Ilaiyaraaja from Jaipur and Uchchtevan from Chandigarh, were rescued by villagers who smashed the car’s windows after its doors jammed in the submerged vehicle. Both survivors, critically injured, were rushed to a hospital in Bagli and later referred to Indore for advanced treatment.
This marks the fourth such incident at the same century-old culvert in two months, highlighting its hazardous condition due to missing railings and warning signs. Police are investigating further.
