A tragic incident in Gajraula, Amroha, Uttar Pradesh, claimed the life of a 26-day-old newborn after he was accidentally crushed between his parents while they slept. The infant, Sufian, was born on November 10 and was the only child of 25-year-old Saddam Abbasi and his wife, Asma. The couple had placed him between them on the bed before going to sleep on Saturday night.
Family members reported that during the night, both parents unknowingly changed sides, causing the baby to become trapped. When Asma woke up on Sunday morning to feed Sufian, she found him unresponsive. The parents immediately rushed him to the Gajraula Community Health Centre, where doctors declared him dead.
Relatives noted that Sufian had been a weak infant since birth and suffered from breathing issues and later jaundice. Medical professionals at the health centre confirmed that the cause of death was accidental suffocation, resulting from the infant being trapped between his parents during sleep.

Child specialist Dr. Amit Verma warned about the dangers of co-sleeping with newborns. He advised that infants should sleep separately in a safe crib or bassinet to reduce the risk of accidental suffocation and other sleep-related hazards.
The tragic event left the parents in shock, resulting in a brief argument at the hospital. They were later consoled by family members, and officials confirmed that no police complaint has been filed in connection with the incident.
This incident serves as a grim reminder for parents to follow safe sleep practices for newborns. Experts emphasize that babies should have a dedicated sleeping space, free from adult bodies, heavy bedding, or pillows, to prevent such heartbreaking accidents.
