A one-year-old girl, abducted from Mathura Junction railway station late Friday night, was safely rescued within 41 hours near Agra Cantonment station by the Government Railway Police (GRP), authorities confirmed on Monday. The dramatic rescue has brought relief to the child’s family, who can now celebrate her first birthday on August 28 with joy.
The abduction occurred on August 22 when the child, sleeping unattended on a platform, was taken by a 27-year-old daily wage worker named Satish from Dholpur’s Mania area. Deputy Superintendent of Police (GRP) Najmul Hasan Rizvi said the GRP launched an immediate and intensive operation, combing through CCTV footage and leveraging a network of informers to track the suspect. “Our team apprehended Satish near Kheria bridge, close to Agra Cantt, ensuring the child’s safe recovery within 41 hours,” Rizvi stated.
The child’s family, originally from Majhauli village in Jabalpur’s Sihora tehsil, currently resides near Mathura Junction, earning a living by collecting recyclable items. The emotional reunion saw the toddler, cheerful and unharmed, back in her mother’s arms. “This is a moment of immense joy,” said a family member, expressing gratitude to the GRP for their swift action.

Satish, motivated by his inability to have children, confessed to the kidnapping. He was arrested and charged under Section 137(2) (kidnapping) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and sent to judicial custody. The GRP’s efficient response has been widely praised, with posts on X lauding the operation’s speed and success. The incident underscores the vulnerability of families at busy public spaces and the critical role of vigilant policing in ensuring justice and safety.
