Vice-President C.P. Radhakrishnan on Friday paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi, former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K. Kamaraj on occasions marking their birth and death anniversaries. He called upon citizens to uphold the values of non-violence, truth, justice, simplicity and public service associated with the three leaders. Radhakrishnan first paid homage to Gandhi at Rajghat on his birth anniversary.
At Rajghat, the Vice-President described Gandhi's life and message as an enduring beacon of peace, compassion, selflessness and service, according to an official statement. He urged people to reaffirm their commitment to the values championed by Gandhi and work towards building a just, harmonious and inclusive society. The birth anniversary of Gandhi is also observed as the International Day of Non-Violence.
Radhakrishnan later paid floral tributes to Lal Bahadur Shastri at Vijay Ghat on his birth anniversary. He described the former Prime Minister as a leader known for quiet strength, humility, integrity and determination. The Vice-President recalled Shastri's leadership during a significant period in India's history and his contribution to strengthening national confidence and unity.

He also recalled Shastri's slogan “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan”, which recognised the contribution of India's armed forces and farmers. Radhakrishnan said Shastri's life continued to demonstrate that leadership is rooted in simplicity, courage and service to the nation. The Vice-President's tributes highlighted the former Prime Minister's emphasis on national responsibility and public service.
Later, Radhakrishnan paid homage to Kamaraj at an event at the Vice-President's residence on his death anniversary. He described the former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister as a prominent statesman and people's leader who devoted his life to public service and the welfare of ordinary citizens. Radhakrishnan said Kamaraj was guided by Gandhian principles throughout his political life.
The Vice-President also recalled Kamaraj's contribution to Tamil Nadu's development, particularly in education and social welfare. He credited Kamaraj with expanding roads and educational institutions and introducing the mid-day meal programme, while also highlighting his work in irrigation and industrial development. According to Radhakrishnan, the construction of dams and establishment of industrial estates under Kamaraj's leadership helped strengthen the foundations of agriculture and industry in the state.
