A 29-year-old Omani co-pilot identified in reports as Hamam Al Hamami is facing a terrorism investigation in the United Arab Emirates after allegedly attacking Flydubai Captain Smit Machchhar during a flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv. The incident forced the aircraft to make an emergency landing in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia, where the co-pilot was detained before being transferred to the UAE.
The incident occurred on September 30 aboard Flydubai flight FZ1073. According to the report, Al Hamami allegedly attacked the Indian national captain inside the cockpit while the aircraft was in flight, triggering a struggle between the two pilots.
The confrontation led to a rapid descent of more than 16,000 feet as the aircraft was diverted towards Saudi Arabia. The captain was injured during the alleged attack, while passengers and other pilots helped restrain the co-pilot, according to the details reported about the incident.
