Three people infected with Coronavirus have been admitted to a private hospital in Kolkata, with doctors reporting a rise in seasonal viral infections, including Covid-19 cases. The latest admissions come after a 10-year-old boy was earlier hospitalised in the city after testing positive for SARS-CoV-2, taking the total number of Covid-19 patients receiving treatment at private hospitals in Kolkata to four.
Dr. Subhajit Sen, Consultant Pulmonologist and Critical Care Specialist at the private hospital, said the facility is currently treating three patients with Covid-19 infection. One patient has recovered and is being discharged, while two others required admission to the intensive care unit due to low oxygen levels but have responded well to treatment and are now in stable condition.
According to Dr. Sen, the current Covid-19 pattern appears similar to the Omicron wave, with most patients experiencing mild upper respiratory symptoms. Common symptoms include fever, sore throat, cough and body aches. However, elderly people and individuals with existing health conditions continue to face a higher risk of developing serious complications.

The doctor advised people not to panic but recommended continued precautions during periods of increased viral transmission. He suggested wearing masks in crowded places, maintaining hand hygiene, avoiding unnecessary gatherings and seeking medical advice if symptoms become severe. He said awareness and timely care remain important in managing infections.
The 10-year-old boy, a resident of Garia on the southern outskirts of Kolkata, was admitted to a private hospital on July 18 after developing fever, cough and breathing difficulties. Following a positive swab test, doctors shifted him to the isolation unit of the intensive care facility for further monitoring and treatment.
Covid-19 cases have also been reported in other parts of India. In Andhra Pradesh, 12 infections were recorded between June 26 and July 16, while four patients with underlying health conditions reportedly died. In Pune, Maharashtra, fresh Covid-19 cases have been detected after nearly three years, though doctors have said most patients are experiencing mild symptoms. Authorities and health experts have advised continued caution as infections rise in some regions.
