A disturbing video from a high-rise residential society in Ghaziabad’s Indirapuram area has sparked widespread concern after showing a young child sitting precariously on the outer edge of a balcony grill several floors above the ground. The incident, which reportedly occurred on January 17 at the Angel Jupiter Society, has gone viral on social media, raising serious questions about child safety in high-rise apartments.
The footage, captured by a resident of a neighbouring tower, shows the child perched on a narrow horizontal crossbar of the balcony grill, with legs dangling freely over a steep drop. No adult is visible near the child at the time, and the child’s body appears to be leaning outward, creating a highly dangerous situation that many viewers described as moments away from tragedy.
As the video circulated widely, it triggered public outrage and anxiety, with social media users expressing alarm over the apparent lack of supervision. Many questioned the safety measures in place in high-rise buildings and urged parents and housing societies to take stronger precautions to prevent such incidents.

Fortunately, the situation did not end in disaster. Family members intervened in time and safely rescued the child. The family later clarified that the child has autism and requires constant supervision, adding that the incident occurred due to a brief lapse in attention. They stressed that there was no intention to put the child at risk.
The episode has once again brought the issue of balcony safety into sharp focus. It has revived memories of a tragic incident in November 2025, when a five-year-old boy died after falling from the 22nd floor of a residential building in Ghaziabad’s Sector 62 after being accidentally locked inside an apartment.
In the wake of the latest close call, residents and child safety advocates are demanding stricter safety norms for high-rise buildings. Suggestions include mandatory installation of invisible grills, child-safe balcony designs, and bird nets to act as protective barriers, especially in homes with young children.
