Ten fishermen from Chintapalli village in Andhra Pradesh’s Vizianagaram district were rescued after their mechanised fishing boat suffered an engine failure and drifted off the Odisha coast near Puri. Officials confirmed that all ten fishermen were safely brought ashore following a coordinated rescue operation.
The fishermen had set out from Kakinada Fishing Harbour four days earlier for a fishing expedition. During the journey, their boat developed a mechanical problem and became stranded at sea. With the engine no longer functioning, the vessel drifted around two to three kilometres off the Puri shoreline, leaving the crew unable to return to the coast on their own.
As the situation became increasingly concerning, the fishermen sent out a distress alert seeking immediate assistance. They also reportedly sent video messages to their families asking for urgent help, triggering anxiety among relatives back home in Chintapalli village. The messages drew attention to the crew’s situation as the disabled vessel remained stranded off the coast.

After receiving information about the incident, the Puri Marine Police coordinated a rescue operation to bring the fishermen to safety. A nearby fishing boat was sent to assist the stranded crew and reached the disabled vessel. All ten fishermen were safely evacuated from the boat and brought ashore without any reported injuries.
Officials said the mechanised fishing boat remained disabled following the engine failure and was expected to be towed to a safe location. Authorities confirmed that all members of the crew were safe following the rescue, bringing relief to their families, who had been concerned after receiving the fishermen’s video messages from the sea.
The timely coordination between the marine police and the nearby fishing boat brought the incident to a safe conclusion. What began as a routine fishing expedition turned into a tense situation after the vessel lost power and drifted near the Odisha coast, but the distress alert and quick rescue response ensured that all ten fishermen returned safely to shore.
