The Telangana State Election Commission has rolled out an ambitious five-phase schedule for elections to rural local bodies, setting the stage for a significant democratic exercise across the state. Announced on Monday by State Election Commissioner Rani Kumudini, the polls will cover 12,733 Gram Panchayats, 5,749 Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituencies (MPTCs), and 565 Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituencies (ZPTCs), engaging a staggering 1.67 crore voters, including 81.65 lakh males, 85.36 lakh females, and 504 others.
The Model Code of Conduct took effect immediately with the announcement, ensuring a structured and fair electoral process. Kumudini detailed that the elections will commence with MPTC and ZPTC polls in two phases, followed by Gram Panchayat elections in three phases, designed to streamline logistics and voter participation across Telangana’s rural landscape.
The first phase of MPTC and ZPTC elections begins with the issuance of the election notice on October 9, allowing nominations from the same day. Polling for this phase is scheduled for October 23. The second phase notification will be released on October 13, with polling set for October 27. Vote counting for both MPTC and ZPTC elections will occur on November 11, ensuring a consolidated tally of results.

For Gram Panchayats, the elections are spread across three phases to accommodate the vast number of constituencies. The first phase kicks off with a notice on October 17, followed by polling and counting on October 31. The second phase starts nominations on October 21, with polling and counting on November 4. The third and final phase begins on October 25, with polling and counting concluding on November 8.
This extensive electoral plan reflects Telangana’s commitment to strengthening grassroots governance, with over 1.67 crore voters poised to shape the future of rural administration. The phased approach aims to ensure smooth operations, from nomination filings to result announcements, while accommodating the logistical challenges of such a massive undertaking. Kumudini emphasized the commission’s preparedness to conduct free and fair elections, urging voters to participate actively in this pivotal democratic process.
