Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy met Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi on Thursday to discuss the upcoming Gandhi Sarovar Project, a major initiative under the state’s Musi River Rejuvenation programme. The CM formally invited the Union Minister to attend the foundation stone laying ceremony scheduled for the last week of February.
The site of the project, located at the confluence of the Esa and Musi rivers, holds profound national significance as the ashes of Mahatma Gandhi were immersed here in February 1948. Reddy highlighted the historical and cultural importance of the location during the meeting, according to a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO).
Reddy emphasized that the Gandhi Sarovar Project is a pivotal part of Telangana’s broader Musi River Rejuvenation efforts, aimed at ecological restoration, sustainable development, and urban renewal. He also outlined plans to develop Bapu Ghat into a world-class educational, cultural, spiritual, and environmental hub reflecting Gandhi’s legacy.

The Defence Minister expressed appreciation for the initiative and the state government’s efforts to blend heritage conservation with ecological restoration. The meeting was attended by Congress MPs Mallu Ravi, Kadiyam Kavya, Anil Kumar Yadav, and Vamsi Gaddam, who accompanied the Chief Minister.
Reddy further briefed Singh on plans to establish the “Gandhi Circle of Unity” at the confluence, reinforcing the project’s role as an enduring symbol of national integration and Gandhian ideals. In a previous meeting in September 2025, the Chief Minister had requested the transfer of 98.20 acres of defence land for the project.
The Gandhi Sarovar Project is poised to become a landmark for Hyderabad, combining ecological restoration, cultural heritage, and national pride, while serving as a lasting tribute to Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of unity, sustainability, and social harmony.
