Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has announced plans to designate a prominent road adjacent to the US Consulate General in Hyderabad as “Donald Trump Avenue,” a gesture intended to honour the sitting US President and elevate the city’s international profile ahead of the upcoming Telangana Rising Global Summit. If implemented, the naming would mark the first instance worldwide of a major thoroughfare being titled after a serving American president outside the United States.
The initiative forms part of a broader strategy to rebrand key infrastructure corridors after globally influential figures and corporations that have shaped Hyderabad’s emergence as a leading technology and investment destination. Similar proposals include renaming major arteries “Google Street” and “Microsoft Road,” alongside designating a prominent junction as “Wipro Junction,” in recognition of the substantial contributions these companies have made to employment and innovation in the region.
Another significant tribute will see the 100-metre Greenfield Radial Road, connecting the Nehru Outer Ring Road at Raviryala to the planned Future City, officially named in honour of the late Padma Bhushan Ratan Tata. The associated Raviryala interchange has already been christened “Tata Interchange,” reflecting the industrialist’s enduring legacy in Indian business and philanthropy.

Chief Minister Reddy explained that these naming decisions serve both commemorative and inspirational purposes, while simultaneously positioning Hyderabad as a forward-looking metropolis on the global stage. The move is expected to generate considerable international attention, particularly in the lead-up to the high-profile summit designed to showcase Telangana’s investment potential.
The proposal has drawn sharp criticism from the Bharatiya Janata Party, with Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar questioning the Congress government’s priorities and suggesting that historical names such as “Bhagyanagar” should be restored instead. The BJP leader accused the state administration of arbitrarily renaming landmarks after trending personalities rather than focusing on substantive governance issues.
