Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has launched a decisive campaign to tackle Goods and Services Tax (GST) evasion, directing officials to enforce stringent compliance measures across all liable firms.
In a late-night meeting on July 29, 2025, with the Commercial Taxes department in Hyderabad, Reddy underscored the urgency of curbing tax evasion to safeguard the state’s revenue stream. He called for a proactive approach, urging officials to ensure that businesses and individuals registered under GST adhere strictly to tax obligations.
To enhance transparency and support taxpayers, Reddy proposed the establishment of a state-of-the-art call centre powered by Artificial Intelligence. This innovative platform aims to promptly address queries and doubts of GST payers, streamlining compliance processes and fostering trust. The Chief Minister also directed officials to conduct a comparative study of best practices in GST administration from states like Gujarat, Karnataka, and Maharashtra, which have implemented robust tax enforcement mechanisms.
Further, Reddy emphasized the need to improve taxpayer services at Commercial Taxes department offices, ensuring a hassle-free experience for businesses. He instructed officials to modernize infrastructure and adopt technology-driven solutions to enhance efficiency.
The initiative reflects the Telangana government’s commitment to boosting fiscal discipline and plugging revenue leakages, especially as the state gears up for increased economic activity. Sources indicate that the department may soon launch targeted audits to identify and penalize non-compliant entities, reinforcing Reddy’s vision for a transparent and accountable tax ecosystem.
