A shocking incident has rocked the Uyyalawada Girls Residential School in Nagarkurnool district, where 64 students were rushed to a government hospital after falling ill from Saturday night’s dinner. The students, struck by severe vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach aches, are now stable, with 50 already discharged after treatment, health officials confirmed.
Preliminary investigations point to unfermented curd served during the meal as the likely culprit behind the mass food poisoning. Authorities have launched a thorough inquiry, collecting samples of food and drinking water for testing to pinpoint the exact cause. “We are awaiting the test results to confirm the source of the illness, and strict action will be taken based on the findings,” a district official stated.
The incident has raised serious concerns about food safety in state-run schools, echoing similar crises elsewhere, such as recent food poisoning cases in Indonesia linked to school meal programs. Parents and community members are demanding accountability, urging officials to ensure such incidents are not repeated.
As the investigation unfolds, the focus remains on safeguarding the health of the students and restoring trust in the school’s meal services.
