The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) reported that its Suniyo (Sampatti Kar Niptan Yojana) property tax amnesty scheme, launched in June 2025, has amassed an impressive Rs 304 crore in just three months, significantly outperforming its predecessor, the Samriddhi scheme.
The Suniyo scheme, set to conclude on September 30, saw 1,02,142 taxpayers participate, a 163.22% increase over the 38,805 taxpayers who availed of the Samriddhi scheme in 2022-23, which collected only Rs 84.23 crore during a comparable period.
The scheme’s success is evident in its monthly collections: Rs 96.28 crore in June (Rs 35.30 crore from residential and Rs 60.98 crore from commercial taxpayers), Rs 150.57 crore in July, and Rs 58 crore in August. MCD officials attribute the surge in participation—over 63,000 more taxpayers than the previous scheme—to enhanced public awareness, effective citizen outreach, and streamlined digital payment systems that have minimized issues like cheque bounces.
The Suniyo scheme’s remarkable performance underscores MCD’s efforts to boost revenue collection while making compliance easier for Delhi’s residents and businesses. As the deadline approaches, the initiative stands as a testament to the effectiveness of targeted civic campaigns and digital innovation in transforming municipal tax collection, setting a new benchmark for urban governance in the capital.
