Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Delhi government will launch and unveil 75 public welfare schemes, programs, and projects during the ‘Sewa Pakhwara’ from September 17 to October 2, celebrating Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 75th birth anniversary. Speaking to reporters, Gupta described the initiatives as a “befitting reply” to Opposition leaders who, she alleged, insulted Modi and his late mother, emphasizing that these programs will prioritize the welfare of Delhi’s residents and showcase the government’s commitment to public service.
The announcement comes amid a controversy sparked by derogatory remarks made against Modi’s deceased mother during the Congress party’s ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ in Darbhanga, Bihar. Gupta criticized Opposition leaders for their silence on the issue, calling it “low-grade politics” and noting that no regret had been expressed. Earlier that day, Modi addressed the incident, expressing deep pain and taking a swipe at the Opposition for disrespecting both his mother and “Mother India,” urging that such actions warrant punishment.
The ‘Sewa Pakhwara’ will feature a range of initiatives across various departments, aimed at enhancing public welfare in Delhi. Gupta’s remarks underscore the BJP’s intent to counter political criticism with tangible governance achievements, leveraging the occasion of Modi’s milestone birthday to highlight development efforts while intensifying the political discourse surrounding the Opposition’s conduct.
