The Tamil Nadu police have approved actor Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) for a campaign event at Marakkadai in Tiruchirappalli on September 13, but with strict restrictions in place. The gathering, aimed at launching Vijay’s campaign ahead of next year’s Assembly elections, is limited to just 25 minutes and confined solely to Tiruchirappalli.
No roadshows or receptions will be permitted en route to the venue, and organizers have been warned to ensure no law and order issues arise during the event. This decision follows Vijay’s accusations that the ruling DMK government attempted to hinder his activities.
Key restrictions include scheduling the campaign between 10:35 am and 11:00 am, with participants required to arrive by 9:35 am due to high pedestrian and commercial activity in the area. Only the TVK leader’s vehicle and five others are allowed, prohibiting any vehicle processions or walking by party functionaries. These measures are intended to minimize disruptions to public transportation and maintain order, reflecting the police’s emphasis on safety and crowd control.
TVK has reportedly accepted these conditions and committed to a smooth execution of the event. Organizers must arrange for essential facilities such as drinking water, first-aid services, an ambulance, and firefighting equipment at the venue. Parking arrangements are also mandated to avoid interfering with daily activities, ensuring the event does not inconvenience the public.

In response to Vijay’s claims, State Municipal Administration Minister K N Nehru stated that there is no intent to create obstacles, attributing the restrictions to the venue’s potential to disrupt public life. This development highlights ongoing political tensions as parties gear up for elections, with authorities balancing security concerns and democratic rights.
