Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin, reinvigorated after a recent health setback, visited his home constituency of Kolathur to launch a slew of development initiatives. On Tuesday, he laid the foundation stone for 14 new projects worth ₹17.65 crore and inaugurated critical infrastructure, including police facilities and school buildings, aimed at enhancing public services in the region.
Among the highlights was the inauguration of the Deputy Commissioner of Police office in Kolathur and a new police station at the Kalaignar Centenary Bus Terminus in Kilambakkam, constructed at a cost of ₹18.26 crore. Stalin also unveiled additional buildings at the Chennai Girls’ Higher Secondary School in Perambur, built for ₹9.74 crore, boosting educational infrastructure. Other projects included a police station in Peravallur and an air-conditioned bus stand at Retteri, enhancing local connectivity and safety.
Reflecting on his visit, Stalin posted on X, “The Kolathur visit, postponed due to health reasons, felt like a long separation. That feeling is gone, and today’s #KolathurVisit has given me new strength.” His recent hospitalization for giddiness and an angiogram procedure in July had delayed the visit, but hospital sources confirmed his recovery, with normal results from the procedure.

Stalin’s focus on Kolathur aligns with his long-standing commitment to the constituency, which he has represented since 2011 after moving from Thousand Lights. As a former mayor of Chennai (1996-2002), he earned the title *Managara Thanthai* (Father of the City) for projects like *Singara Chennai*, which transformed the city’s infrastructure. His latest efforts continue this legacy, with initiatives like the state’s first government-run co-working and learning space, *Muthalvar Padaippagam*, inaugurated in November 2024 at a cost of ₹2.85 crore, and housing projects worth ₹111.80 crore completed in 2022.
The Chief Minister’s visit also underscores his broader governance vision. Under his leadership since 2021, Tamil Nadu has seen initiatives like the *Pudhumai Penn* scheme, providing ₹1,000 monthly to girls pursuing higher education, and *Innuyir Kappom-Nammai Kakkum 48*, covering emergency care for accident victims. These reflect the Dravidian model’s focus on social justice and development, which Stalin emphasized while addressing residents, urging them to support a union government that respects states’ rights.
The projects come amid Stalin’s ongoing advocacy for Tamil Nadu’s interests, including requests to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for railway project funding and fair representation in central government jobs. With Kolathur’s development gaining momentum, Stalin’s hands-on approach signals a continued push for progress, even as he navigates political tensions with the central government.
