A special flight carrying around 200 Indian passengers, most of them from Gujarat, landed safely in Mumbai on Friday after departing from the United Arab Emirates, bringing relief to families amid disruptions in international travel caused by escalating tensions in West Asia. The passengers, many of whom had been stranded in the Gulf nation due to suspended commercial services, expressed relief upon reaching India, with several describing the journey as an emotional and anxious experience.
According to passengers on board, the group remained tense throughout the journey as the aircraft traveled during a period of heightened geopolitical uncertainty linked to the ongoing conflict involving Iran and Israel. Several travelers said they were relieved once the aircraft touched down at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. Many of those returning were residents of Gujarat who had been visiting or working in the UAE when travel disruptions began.
Passengers included families and several elderly individuals who had been waiting for days to find a safe route back to India. One traveler described the flight as a “huge relief,” saying that many passengers remained anxious for the entire duration of the journey. The group is expected to travel onward to their hometowns in Gujarat, including cities such as Nadiad and Vadodara, after completing arrival formalities in Mumbai.

Despite the successful evacuation of this group, many Indian tourists and workers are still stranded in the UAE due to the suspension of several commercial flights. Travel disruptions have also led to a sharp increase in chartered flight costs, which many stranded passengers have described as unaffordable. Families waiting in India have been urging authorities and travel operators to arrange more accessible evacuation options.
Travel agents and community representatives say that uncertainty surrounding air routes in the region has complicated travel planning. The evolving security situation in parts of the Middle East has forced airlines to reassess flight operations and routes, resulting in cancellations and delays that have left travelers searching for alternative arrangements.
Authorities and community organizations are continuing efforts to help stranded Indians return home safely. Officials have indicated that additional arrangements could be explored if disruptions persist, while travelers currently abroad have been advised to stay in touch with local Indian missions and monitor travel updates as the regional situation develops.
