Maximum temperatures have recorded a slight increase across parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal over the past 24 hours, the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai reported on Saturday. Officials noted that while some areas experienced temperatures above normal, the overall change in maximum temperatures across the region remains modest.
In a few places in Tamil Nadu, maximum temperatures were 2–3 degrees Celsius above the seasonal average, while most other areas, including Puducherry and Karaikal, continued to experience temperatures close to expected seasonal norms. Among the recorded readings, Vellore stood out with the highest maximum temperature at 40 degrees Celsius, making it one of the hottest places in the region. In contrast, Tiruttani recorded the lowest minimum temperature in the plains at 19.5 degrees Celsius, while hill station Udhagamandalam (Ooty) reported the lowest overall temperature at 8 degrees Celsius.
Meteorologists attributed the current weather conditions to an atmospheric circulation over the south peninsular region. Under its influence, light rainfall is expected at one or two places in the Nilgiris and Coimbatore districts during Saturday evening and on Sunday, March 8. Meanwhile, dry weather is forecast to prevail across most other parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal.

Regarding temperature trends, the Weather Department indicated that no significant change in maximum temperatures is expected between March 7 and March 8. However, from March 9 to March 11, maximum temperatures are likely to drop by 2–3 degrees Celsius across the region. Despite the expected decline, temperatures on March 7 and March 8 may remain 2–3 degrees above normal at a few locations, before gradually returning closer to seasonal averages from March 9 onwards.
For minimum temperatures, no major variation is anticipated between March 7 and March 8. A slight rise in night temperatures may occur from March 9 to March 11, with some locations continuing to experience slightly above-normal conditions during this period.
In Chennai and its suburbs, partly cloudy skies are forecast for Saturday and Sunday. Maximum temperatures are expected to range between 36 and 37 degrees Celsius, while minimum temperatures are likely to hover around 24 to 25 degrees Celsius, according to the Weather Department.
