Six people were killed and one person sustained serious injuries after a high-impact collision involving a speeding car, a motorcycle and a bus near Amalner in Maharashtra’s Jalgaon district on Tuesday morning, police said. The accident occurred around 7 am near Londhe Phata, triggering a chain-reaction crash that left multiple victims dead at the spot and caused disruption on the busy highway stretch.
According to police officials, the car involved in the accident was travelling from Gujarat towards Maharashtra for an engagement ceremony when it collided head-on with a motorcycle. The force of the impact caused the two-wheeler to lose control and crash into a bus approaching from the opposite direction, escalating the incident into a multi-vehicle pile-up. Authorities said the sequence of collisions unfolded within seconds, leaving little time for evasive action.
Police identified the deceased occupants of the car as Nandlal Mahajan, Anita Mahajan, Suresh Mahajan and Nirmala Mahajan. The two motorcycle riders, identified as Nilesh Tawade and Falguni Bhoi, also died in the accident. Officials said all six victims succumbed to injuries either on the spot or shortly after the collision, due to the severity of the impact and resulting trauma.

The driver of the car, Aditya Mahajan, sustained serious leg fractures and was immediately shifted to a private hospital for emergency treatment. Medical officials said he remains under observation. Emergency response teams, along with local residents, rushed to the scene soon after the accident and assisted police in removing victims and clearing damaged vehicles from the road to restore traffic flow.
Preliminary assessments by investigators suggest that overspeeding may have played a role in the crash, though police have not ruled out other contributing factors. Authorities are examining vehicle conditions, eyewitness accounts and road dynamics at the time of the incident to reconstruct the exact sequence of events. A formal investigation has been initiated to determine liability and identify any violations of traffic norms.
The accident has once again highlighted concerns over road safety on inter-district highways in Maharashtra, where mixed traffic involving passenger vehicles, two-wheelers and heavy transport often shares narrow or high-speed corridors. Officials said further action will depend on the outcome of the investigation, while urging motorists to adhere strictly to speed limits and exercise caution, particularly during early morning travel hours.
