Seven people, including two children, lost their lives in two separate road accidents in Assam’s Hojai and Dhubri districts on Saturday, police reported. The tragedies have raised fresh concerns about road safety in the region.
In Hojai’s Nilbagan area, a speeding vehicle slammed into a bridge railing in the early hours, killing three passengers instantly. A fourth, critically injured, was rushed to a local hospital but succumbed to injuries. Nikhil Chandra Roy, Officer-in-Charge of Murajhar police station, confirmed the crash occurred around 3:30 AM as the car traveled from Guwahati toward Karbi Anglong.
In Dhubri’s Golakganj, a car veered off the road and struck trees, resulting in the immediate deaths of a woman and a 10-month-old child. Three others, including a 1.5-month-old infant, were rescued by police and locals but the infant later died in hospital. The two surviving victims are receiving treatment.
