The Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation has fiercely condemned the BJP-led Assam government's ongoing eviction drives, demanding an immediate stop to what it calls a "ruthless campaign of corporate land grab and ethnic cleansing." In a statement issued by its central committee, CPI(ML) accused the government of targeting Muslims and marginalized communities under the pretext of forest protection and action against alleged illegal infiltrators.
The party highlighted a violent clash in Goalpara district on Thursday, where one person died and 20 others, including police, were injured during an eviction drive. CPI(ML) labeled the incident a stark display of the BJP's "inhumanity and impunity." A fact-finding team, including MP Sudama Prasad, Assam unit secretary Bibek Das, and others, visited Ashudubi village in Goalpara, reporting that over 1,100 homes were razed using 60 bulldozers, with trenches dug to block humanitarian aid.
The team found that victims, primarily poor Muslim peasants living in the village for decades, faced devastating losses. CPI(ML) noted two deaths: Sheikh Monirul Islam, who reportedly took his own life after receiving an eviction notice, and Anaruddin Sheikh, who suffered a fatal heart attack during the demolition of his home.

CPI(ML) alleged that thousands of families across Goalpara, Dhubri, Karbi Anglong, and other regions face displacement without legal process or rehabilitation. The party claimed the BJP is using "illegal infiltration" as a cover to fuel communal polarization and clear land for corporate projects, including a 3,000-MW Adani thermal power plant in Dhubri and Goalpara, a cement factory in Dima Hasao, and Reliance biogas plants in Karbi Anglong.
The party demanded an immediate halt to all evictions, full rehabilitation for displaced families, and a court-monitored inquiry into police violence. Goalpara’s District Commissioner Prodip Timung claimed encroachers attacked security personnel with sticks and stones during the Paikan reserve forest operation, but CPI(ML) insists the government’s actions violate human rights and serve corporate interests over the poor.
