The Andhra Pradesh government has launched the ‘Mee Intiki - Mee Doctor’ initiative across seven districts to strengthen primary health care and bring medical services closer to residents’ doorsteps. The program is designed to ensure timely access to essential health care, reduce the burden on hospitals, and promote preventive health practices in both rural and urban areas.
Under the initiative, government doctors and medical staff will visit households to provide basic health screenings, consultations, and guidance on common ailments. Officials said the program aims to identify health issues early, manage chronic diseases, and offer timely interventions to improve overall public health outcomes. The service is expected to particularly benefit elderly citizens, children, and individuals with limited access to medical facilities.
The seven districts selected for the pilot phase include key regions with a mix of urban and rural populations. Health authorities emphasized that the initiative will also focus on maternal and child health, immunization coverage, and nutritional support, aligning with the state’s broader objectives to enhance primary care infrastructure and reduce preventable diseases. Mobile medical units and local health volunteers will assist in ensuring the program reaches all targeted households.

Officials highlighted that the program complements existing government schemes such as telemedicine services, community health centers, and public health awareness campaigns. By integrating door-to-door visits with existing health resources, the government aims to provide comprehensive care and reduce unnecessary hospital visits. Authorities believe this proactive approach will enhance the efficiency and reach of the state’s health care system.
Health experts have lauded the initiative, noting that preventive and community-based health care is crucial for improving population health metrics. “Programs like ‘Mee Intiki - Mee Doctor’ can significantly reduce the incidence of chronic and communicable diseases by promoting early detection and continuous monitoring,” said a senior public health official. The approach is expected to strengthen the connection between citizens and health care providers, fostering trust and better adherence to medical advice.
The Andhra Pradesh government has announced plans to expand the program to additional districts after evaluating the outcomes of the pilot phase. Officials also stressed the importance of citizen participation, encouraging residents to cooperate with health teams and utilize the services offered. By bringing primary health care to people’s doorsteps, the state aims to create a more resilient, accessible, and equitable health care system across Andhra Pradesh.
