Russia has thrown its weight behind US President Donald Trump’s ambitious 20-point peace plan to halt the ongoing war in Gaza, signaling a rare alignment with Washington on Middle East affairs. The Kremlin’s endorsement comes a day after Trump unveiled the proposal following high-stakes talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday, aiming to broker an immediate ceasefire and secure the release of hostages held by Hamas.

Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov expressed Moscow’s support during a Tuesday press briefing, stating, “Russia welcomes any efforts by Trump to prevent the tragedy unfolding in Gaza.” He emphasized Moscow’s hope that the plan would steer the region toward peace, though he clarified that Russia has not been directly involved in its formulation nor received formal communication from the US. “We want this plan to succeed and bring stability to the Middle East,” Peskov added, underscoring Russia’s readiness to assist if invited.
