Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma ordered immediate repairs for damaged government buildings across the state, following a high-level meeting at his residence in Jaipur. The directive comes in response to recent tragedies, including the collapse of a school building in Jhalawar on July 25, which killed seven children and injured 28, and another incident in Jaisalmer on July 28, where a collapsing school gate pillar claimed a six-year-old student’s life and injured a teacher.
Sharma mandated all departments to compile district-wise reports on dilapidated public buildings, prioritizing prompt repairs, especially in rural areas. He emphasized using disaster management funds for swift action and urged officials to submit repair proposals without delay. A state-level committee will be formed to investigate the construction quality of government buildings, schools, and anganwadi centres built over the last six years, with accountability measures for any future incidents resulting in loss of life.
The state has allocated Rs 50 crore in the 2025-26 budget to repair 5,000 anganwadi buildings, and unsafe centres have already been relocated. Sharma directed the public works, education, health, and women and child development departments to conduct mandatory inspections and submit detailed reports on public buildings, particularly schools and hospitals. Chief Secretary Sudhansh Pant and senior officials attended the meeting, underscoring the urgency of addressing the state’s crumbling infrastructure to prevent further tragedies.
