The Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education (RBSE) will conduct Class 10 board examinations twice a year from the 2026-27 academic session, introducing a system intended to reduce examination pressure and provide students with another opportunity to improve their performance. Under the revised arrangement, the first board examination will be compulsory for all Class 10 students, while those who qualify will have the option of taking a second examination later in the same academic year.
The first examination is expected to be held during February-March 2027, followed by the second examination in May-June. Students who pass the first examination will be allowed to appear for the second examination specifically to improve their marks. The new system is designed to ensure that students do not have to wait for another academic year to improve their results after the main board examination.
Students appearing for improvement in the second examination will be permitted to seek better marks in up to three subjects. The final result will be prepared by considering the higher marks obtained by a student in each subject across the two examinations. For instance, if a student scores 60 marks in a subject in the first examination and improves the score to 70 in the second, the higher score of 70 will be considered for the final result.

The second examination will also replace the existing supplementary examination system and provide another opportunity to certain students who do not meet the passing criteria. Students who score below the minimum qualifying mark of 33 per cent in up to two subjects will be eligible under the Essential Improvement category. Students who are absent in one subject and score below 33 per cent in another will also be eligible to take the second examination under the specified conditions.
Students applying for improvement will have to appear in the same subjects for which they seek better marks and will not be allowed to change those subjects. The second examination will be based on the Class 10 syllabus, while internal assessment and practical marks already obtained by students will be carried forward. This means eligible students will not have to repeat those components while appearing for the second board examination.
However, students who fail in three or more subjects will not be eligible to use the second examination opportunity and will have to appear for all subjects again in the following academic year. The revised examination structure is expected to give students greater flexibility by providing an additional chance to improve their performance within the same academic session, while reducing the pressure associated with a single high-stakes Class 10 board examination.
