The Railway Board under the Ministry of Railways has recommended the premature retirement of five Group ‘A’ officers in public interest following a detailed review of their service records. The action has been initiated under Rule 1802(a) of the Indian Railway Establishment Code, Volume II, which is equivalent to Rule 56(j) of the Fundamental Rules governing government service.

According to the Ministry of Railways, the officers recommended for premature retirement include two Senior Administrative Grade (SAG) officers from the Indian Railway Health Service (IRHS), one Junior Administrative Grade (JAG) officer from the Indian Railway Service of Engineers (IRSE) posted in Northern Railway, one officer from the Indian Railway Service of Electrical Engineers (IRSEE) in Northern Railway, and one JAG officer from the Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS) in Western Railway.

The decision was taken after review committees constituted by the Railway Board examined the service records of the officers as per the prescribed procedure. The assessment included their Annual Performance Appraisal Reports (APARs), integrity records, vigilance inputs, disciplinary history and other relevant details related to their official conduct.

The committees unanimously recommended premature retirement in these cases, stating that the action was necessary in public interest. The Ministry clarified that such reviews are conducted periodically to assess whether government employees continue to meet the required standards of efficiency, accountability and integrity.

The Railways stated that it follows a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption, lack of integrity and inefficiency among its employees. It emphasised that discipline, transparency and accountability remain key principles in public service and that measures under service rules are aimed at maintaining these standards.

The latest recommendations are part of the Railways’ continuing efforts to strengthen administrative accountability and ensure effective functioning across its departments. The Ministry said periodic reviews help identify officials whose continuation in service may not be in the larger public interest based on established rules and procedures.
