Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi intensified his attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi during an election rally in Nalanda on Thursday, reiterating his charge that the Prime Minister created a “separate clean-water pool” near the Yamuna for a Chhath Puja ritual, instead of taking a dip in the polluted river. Gandhi used the incident to underscore what he called the stark divide between privileged India and the reality faced by ordinary citizens.
Addressing voters on the second day of his Bihar campaign, Gandhi said the country was being split into “two Indias” — one for the wealthy and influential, and another for farmers, labourers, and ordinary citizens. He alleged that while residents of Delhi struggle for clean water, pipelines were brought in specifically to fill a private pond for the Prime Minister’s ceremonial bath. Billionaires like Adani and Ambani, he claimed, belong to the privileged segment benefiting from government decisions.
Gandhi also launched a sharp attack on Union Home Minister Amit Shah, countering Shah’s claim that Bihar lacks land for industrial development. He alleged that farmland belonging to local people was acquired cheaply and handed over to industrialists for nominal rates. According to Gandhi, some plots were allotted for as little as one rupee, demonstrating what he called the government’s bias towards corporate interests over farmers’ rights.

Stepping up his criticism of the BJP’s electoral victory, Gandhi again accused the ruling NDA of winning the 2024 Lok Sabha polls through “vote theft”, claiming the government came to power through manipulation rather than people’s mandate. He further asserted that the Constitution drafted by Dr. B. R. Ambedkar was under threat from the current administration, urging voters to safeguard democratic values.
The Congress leader reaffirmed that a future INDIA bloc government in Bihar would represent farmers, workers, Dalits, and all communities, promising inclusive governance. He also pledged that if elected, the alliance would establish “the world’s best university” in Nalanda, restoring the region’s historic academic legacy and providing global-class education opportunities to youth.
