Security has been tightened across Madhya Pradesh ahead of President Droupadi Murmu’s scheduled visit to Omkareshwar, with authorities placing the state on high alert to ensure smooth conduct of her engagements. The President is expected to arrive via Indore on June 18 as part of her five-day visit to the state, which includes both religious and official programmes.
Director General of Police Kailash Makwana has directed officials across all districts to remain extra vigilant and maintain strict law and order during the President’s visit. Security agencies have been mobilised at key locations, particularly in Indore and Khandwa districts, where the main events are scheduled to take place. The administration has also coordinated with multiple departments to ensure seamless movement and crowd management.
During her visit, President Murmu is scheduled to offer prayers and seek darshan at the revered Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga shrine on June 18. The following day, she will attend an official programme marking World Sickle Cell Day. Authorities said arrangements have been made to facilitate both religious and official engagements while maintaining tight security protocols.

Officials said that traffic arrangements in and around Omkareshwar have been significantly altered from June 17 until noon on June 19. Multiple diversion routes have been set up for vehicles travelling between Indore, Khandwa, and nearby regions to prevent congestion. Designated parking zones have also been created for private vehicles and buses, with devotees expected to proceed on foot from parking areas to the shrine.
The mode of the President’s travel from Indore to Omkareshwar—whether by helicopter or road—has not yet been finalised and will depend on weather conditions. She is expected to be received at Indore airport by senior officials, ministers, and public representatives, with the administration making elaborate arrangements for her arrival and movement.
Local authorities have also declared temporary restrictions, including no-vehicle zones during the President’s convoy movement to ensure security and avoid disruptions. Officials have appealed to the public and devotees for cooperation, acknowledging that some inconvenience may occur due to heightened security measures but stressing that all steps are being taken to ensure a smooth and safe visit.
