Security has been significantly tightened in Jammu and Poonch districts as Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrives on Friday evening for a two-day visit, his first to Jammu and Kashmir since India’s Operation Sindoor.
The visit comes amid heightened tensions following Pakistan’s retaliatory shelling from May 7-10, which killed 28 civilians, including 14 in Poonch, and damaged nearly 2,000 structures.
Shah will chair a high-level security review at Raj Bhavan in Jammu, attended by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and top officials from the Army, BSF, police, and intelligence agencies, focusing on Operation Sindoor, anti-terror operations, and Amarnath Yatra preparations.

In Poonch, he will visit shelling-affected families, religious sites like the Singh Sabha Gurudwara, and a BSF camp to boost jawans’ morale. Shah is also expected to distribute appointment letters to kin of deceased civilians at Dak Bungalow.
Ahead of his arrival, BSF Director General Daljit Singh Chawdhary inspected Poonch’s shelling-hit areas, while Delhi Minister Manjinder Singh oversaw arrangements. Enhanced vehicle checks, frisking, and checkpoints at entry-exit points are in place, with additional forces deployed around Raj Bhavan and Poonch.
The visit underscores the Centre’s commitment to restoring peace and supporting affected communities in the volatile border region.
