Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to storm Bihar’s Motihari on Friday, unveiling development projects worth over Rs 7,200 crore and addressing a mega rally at Gandhi Maidan, as the NDA gears up for the looming state assembly elections. The visit, Modi’s 53rd to Bihar since taking office, underscores the state’s priority on his agenda, with a hefty package aimed at transforming rail, road, and rural sectors.
The East Champaran event, expected to draw a staggering five lakh people, will see Modi share the stage with Governor Arif Mohammed Khan, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, and Union ministers. District Magistrate Saurabh Jorwal confirmed extensive preparations, including parking for 10,000 buses and 12 entry gates, two reserved for women. Over 10,000 police personnel, led by 10 IPS officers and 50 Deputy SPs, will ensure security and traffic control, with entry points sealed by 9 AM, ahead of Modi’s 11:30 AM arrival.
Railways take the lion’s share of the projects, with Rs 5,385 crore allocated, including the Rs 4,079 crore Darbhanga-Narkatiaganj line doubling and Rs 585 crore for the Darbhanga-Thalwara and Samastipur-Rambhadrapur lines. Modi will also flag off four Amrit Bharat Express trains, two connecting Bihar to Delhi, boosting regional connectivity. Road projects worth Rs 1,173 crore, including the four-lane Parariya-Mohania section of NH-319, will enhance freight and passenger movement. Additionally, Modi will disburse Rs 162 crore to 40,000 PM Awas Yojana (Gramin) beneficiaries and Rs 400 crore to 61,500 self-help groups under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana.

State BJP chief Dilip Jaiswal hailed the visit as a game-changer for the NDA’s poll prospects. However, opposition leaders fired back. RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav slammed Modi, urging him to address Bihar’s soaring crime rate instead of “vote-seeking” rallies, claiming “jungle raj” has persisted under 20 years of NDA rule. Congress spokesperson Ragini Nayak mocked Modi’s unfulfilled 2015 promise of Rs 1.25 lakh crore for Bihar and his 2014 pledge to revive Motihari’s sugar mills, quipping that locals will serve him “bland tea” reflective of his broken promises. Nayak also accused the BJP of manipulating voter lists to rig the upcoming polls.
