A total of ₹557.51 crore has been spent on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visits to 77 countries since 2021, according to data shared by the central government in Parliament on Thursday. The figures also showed that these international engagements resulted in 316 agreements across various sectors, highlighting the government's assessment of the diplomatic outcomes linked to the visits. The highest expenditure during the period was recorded in 2025, when Prime Minister Modi's visits to 23 countries cost ₹187.83 crore, according to details provided in the Rajya Sabha.
The information was shared by Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita in response to questions raised by Aam Aadmi Party MP Sanjay Singh and CPI MP V Sivadasan. The government data showed that ₹74.59 crore was spent on the Prime Minister's visits to 12 countries during the current year. However, the figures for 2026 did not include expenses related to a France visit in June, as the compilation of bills for that trip was still underway, according to the ministry's response. Prime Minister Modi's foreign visits have included bilateral meetings with global leaders, participation in international summits and engagements focused on areas such as trade, technology, defence cooperation, energy and strategic partnerships.
The government has maintained that these visits are aimed at strengthening India's position globally and expanding diplomatic and economic ties with other nations. According to the information presented in Parliament, the agreements signed during these visits covered multiple sectors, reflecting India's efforts to deepen cooperation with partner countries. These agreements include areas related to economic partnerships, investment, technology exchange, security cooperation and other areas of mutual interest. Foreign travel expenses of the Prime Minister are periodically disclosed by the government through parliamentary replies.

The costs generally include official travel arrangements and related expenses associated with diplomatic engagements. The amount varies depending on factors such as the number of countries visited, duration of trips and logistical requirements. Since becoming Prime Minister in 2014, Narendra Modi has placed significant emphasis on international outreach as part of India's foreign policy approach. His overseas visits have included participation in major global forums such as the G20, BRICS and other multilateral platforms, along with state visits aimed at strengthening relationships with key partners.
The latest figures come amid regular parliamentary discussions on government expenditure and diplomatic activities. While foreign visits involve substantial costs, the government has highlighted their role in advancing India's strategic interests, promoting economic cooperation and increasing engagement with the international community. The Ministry of External Affairs continues to track and compile expenditure details related to official visits. As remaining bills are processed, the final cost figures for some 2026 engagements may be updated in future disclosures.
