Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Ayodhya on Tuesday for a landmark ceremony to hoist a saffron flag on the spire of the newly built Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Temple. According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the act will symbolize the temple’s completion and embody the enduring ideals of dignity, unity, and cultural continuity that define the concept of Ram Rajya. The ceremony, infused with deep spiritual and national significance, is poised to be one of the most important events in India’s recent history.
The sacred triangular flag, measuring ten feet in height and twenty feet in length, will feature an image of a radiant Sun—a symbol of Lord Rama’s brilliance and courage—alongside the sacred Om inscription and the depiction of the Kovidara tree. The PMO noted that these elements collectively represent strength, devotion, and India’s timeless spiritual heritage. The flag will be hoisted atop a shikhar designed in the traditional North Indian Nagara architectural style, while the temple’s surrounding Parkota—an 800-metre enclosure—is built in the South Indian tradition, reflecting the architectural diversity of the temple complex.
During his visit, Prime Minister Modi will undertake a series of pilgrimages across the holy city. His itinerary includes visits to the Saptmandir complex—housing temples dedicated to revered sages such as Maharshi Vashishtha, Maharshi Vishwamitra, Maharshi Valmiki, and others—followed by visits to the Sheshavtar Mandir and Mata Annapurna Mandir. The prime minister will also perform darshan and pooja at the Ram Darbar Garbh Grah before proceeding to the sacred Ram Lalla Garbha Grah.

The ceremony is set to take place around noon, coinciding with the auspicious Panchami Tithi of Shukla Paksha in the month of Margashirsha, which marks Vivah Panchami, celebrating the divine marriage of Lord Rama and Goddess Sita. This historic date also coincides with the martyrdom day of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, the ninth Sikh Guru, who meditated in Ayodhya for 48 hours in the 17th century—lending even greater spiritual depth to the day’s events.
The newly completed temple complex beautifully captures episodes from the life of Lord Rama through its intricate architecture. The outer walls feature 87 stone-carved episodes from the Valmiki Ramayana, while 79 bronze-cast depictions of Indian cultural themes adorn the enclosure walls. Together, these artistic expressions create an immersive visual journey through India’s rich mythological and cultural heritage, offering visitors both inspiration and education as they witness a defining moment in the nation’s spiritual renaissance.
