Akali Dal chief and former Punjab deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal was rushed to a private hospital in Nanded after being attacked during a visit to a gurudwara in Maharashtra on Thursday. Badal suffered an injury to his hand in the incident, while a security personnel was also injured.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inquired about Badal’s health during a phone conversation with his wife, Harsimrat Kaur Badal, according to sources. The Prime Minister sought an update on the Akali Dal chief’s condition following the attack.

According to sources, Badal sustained an injury to his right hand and was taken to a private hospital in Nanded for treatment. A surgery was underway on his right hand, sources said, while further details about his condition were awaited.

The attacker has been identified as Nihang Jaspal Singh, who was arrested shortly after the incident. Police are questioning him to determine the motive behind the attack, which took place at the gurudwara during Badal’s visit.

The incident occurred while Badal was at the religious site in Nanded. Security personnel intervened during the attack, and the accused was subsequently taken into custody. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
