Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president and former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav was admitted to the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) in Patna on Friday after his health reportedly deteriorated. Hospital officials said he was brought to the medical facility following health complications, where a specialised team of doctors has been assigned to monitor his condition.
According to hospital sources, doctors conducted an initial clinical assessment soon after his admission and placed him under close observation. He is currently undergoing diagnostic tests to determine the cause of the health complications. Given his age and existing medical conditions, the medical team is taking a cautious approach while evaluating his condition.
Lalu Prasad Yadav was accompanied to the hospital by his wife and former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi, as well as his daughter and Rajya Sabha MP Misa Bharti. Both remained at the hospital while doctors carried out medical examinations. Hospital authorities said further updates on his health are expected after the completion of the ongoing tests.

The veteran politician had recently shifted to a new residence in Kautilya Nagar, Patna, equipped with facilities to meet his medical requirements. Despite these arrangements, his condition reportedly worsened unexpectedly, making immediate hospitalisation necessary. News of his admission prompted several RJD leaders, party workers and supporters to gather outside IGIMS, leading the administration to enhance security and crowd management around the hospital.
Lalu Prasad Yadav has faced several health challenges in recent years. In December 2022, he underwent a kidney transplant in Singapore, with his daughter Rohini Acharya donating one of her kidneys. He has also been receiving treatment for heart disease, hypertension and other age-related ailments, requiring regular medical supervision.
Doctors at IGIMS continue to monitor his condition closely as investigations remain underway. Party leaders and supporters are awaiting an official medical bulletin, while well-wishers from across the political spectrum have expressed concern over the veteran leader’s health and wished him a speedy recovery.
