Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday highlighted the growing participation of women and young workers from remote and tribal regions in India’s semiconductor sector, following his visit to the CG Semi Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility in Sanand, Gujarat. The remarks came a day after he inaugurated the facility, which has begun commercial production under the government’s India Semiconductor Mission.
In a post on social media platform X, the Prime Minister described his interaction with employees at the plant as one of the most memorable moments of his visit. He particularly emphasised the contribution of women workers, many of whom come from rural and tribal backgrounds and have undergone specialised training to work in the advanced semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem.
PM Modi said these young workers represent India’s “Yuva Shakti” and reflect the transformative impact of new industrial opportunities in the country. He noted that many of the women employees had travelled from remote areas and successfully adapted to highly technical roles after receiving training, strengthening India’s ambitions in the global semiconductor supply chain.

During his interaction at the facility, the Prime Minister also spoke with several employees about their personal journeys. One woman worker shared how her employment had changed perceptions in her village, where families typically discouraged daughters from pursuing higher education or working outside their hometowns. She said her job had inspired other young women in her community to aspire for similar opportunities.
Another employee from Jharkhand described how completing her education at Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya and an Industrial Training Institute (ITI) programme helped her secure a position at CG Semi. She said initial doubts from her community had gradually turned into recognition and pride after she began working in the semiconductor sector and even received opportunities to travel abroad for professional exposure.
The CG Semi OSAT facility, developed with an investment of around ₹7,500 crore, is India’s third semiconductor manufacturing unit to begin production under the India Semiconductor Mission. The plant focuses on packaging and testing semiconductor chips used in automotive, industrial and consumer electronics, contributing to the expansion of India’s domestic electronics manufacturing ecosystem.
Officials said the interactions underscored the government’s push to build a complete semiconductor value chain in India, spanning design, fabrication, packaging and testing. PM Modi said the confidence and skill of the young workforce he met reflected India’s growing strength in high-technology manufacturing and its long-term ambition to become a global semiconductor hub.
