In a post on X, Modi paid tribute to hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand, whose legacy continues to inspire generations, while outlining ambitious plans to nurture talent and build world-class infrastructure.
“Greetings on National Sports Day! We honor Major Dhyan Chand Ji, whose excellence inspires generations,” Modi wrote. He emphasized that India’s sports ecosystem has evolved significantly over the past ten years, driven by grassroots programs that identify and develop young athletes. “From nurturing talent to creating world-class facilities, we are building a vibrant sports ecosystem,” he added, pointing to initiatives like Khelo India, which has expanded opportunities for young athletes across disciplines.
Modi’s vision includes substantial investments in sports infrastructure, such as modern stadiums, training academies, and high-performance centers, aimed at elevating India’s global standing. The government’s support has already yielded results, with Indian athletes achieving historic success at the Olympics, Asian Games, and Commonwealth Games in recent years.
