Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated the state-of-the-art Integrated Terminal 2 at Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBIA) in Guwahati. Built at a cost of Rs 4,000 crore, the terminal is designed to handle 13.1 million passengers annually, significantly enhancing the airport’s capacity and facilities.
The PM toured the new terminal, which is part of a larger Rs 5,000 crore project that also includes Rs 1,000 crore dedicated to world-class Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facilities. Officials emphasized that these upgrades aim to position Guwahati as a key aviation hub for Northeast India and a gateway to Southeast Asia.
Spanning an area of 1,40,000 square metres, the terminal’s design draws inspiration from Assam’s rich biodiversity and cultural heritage. Its modern architecture combines functionality with aesthetic appeal, ensuring smooth passenger flow and world-class amenities.
