Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for a series of infrastructure and development projects worth several thousand crore rupees in Varanasi, his Lok Sabha constituency. The visit marked a significant push toward urban development, healthcare expansion, and connectivity upgrades in the temple city.
During the event, the Prime Minister inaugurated 48 completed projects valued at over ₹1,050 crore and also laid the foundation stone for 112 new projects estimated at around ₹5,300 crore. According to an official statement, the initiatives span multiple sectors including transport, sanitation, healthcare, tourism, and urban infrastructure.
Key completed works include the widening of the Varanasi–Azamgarh Road, commissioning of rail overbridges at Kazzakpura and Kadipur, and a 55 million litres per day sewage treatment plant in Bhagwanpur. These projects are aimed at improving traffic flow, reducing congestion, and strengthening the city’s waste management system.

Among the newly launched projects, several focus on expanding healthcare facilities, including a proposed 500-bed multi-super-specialty hospital at Shri Shiv Prasad Gupta Divisional District Hospital, a 100-bed critical care block, and redevelopment of a 198-bed hospital. The foundation stone was also laid for sewage and water supply schemes under the AMRUT 2.0 urban development mission.
The government also announced infrastructure upgrades in public spaces and tourism corridors, including redevelopment works at major ghats such as Assi Ghat, Dashashwamedh Ghat, and Namo Ghat. Additional projects include construction of market complexes, administrative offices, and civic facilities such as the Integrated Divisional Office and a Juvenile Justice Board in Ramnagar.
In a separate development during the visit, the Prime Minister also transferred over ₹105 crore as a bonus to milk suppliers in Uttar Pradesh associated with Banas Dairy. Officials stated that the initiative is intended to support rural dairy farmers and strengthen the cooperative sector in the state.
