Union Minister Kiren Rijiju announced the cancellation of planned dinner meetings for National Democratic Alliance (NDA) MPs, originally scheduled with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president J.P. Nadda, as a gesture of solidarity with flood victims in Punjab and other northern states.
The decision reflects the leadership’s sensitivity toward the millions affected by devastating floods across the region. Rijiju emphasized that hosting lavish dinners during a time of crisis would be inappropriate, underscoring the BJP and NDA’s commitment to prioritizing the welfare of those impacted. “When people are suffering, it’s our responsibility to stand with them,” Rijiju stated, highlighting the party’s focus on empathy and action during natural calamities.
Despite the cancellation of the dinner meetings, the ongoing two-day BJP MPs’ workshop at the GMC Balayogi Auditorium in the Parliament complex continued as planned. Prime Minister Modi attended the event, engaging with MPs and urging them to connect with constituents through monthly tiffin meetings.

These grassroots interactions aim to address local issues and strengthen public outreach, aligning with the party’s long-term vision.
The workshop, which concludes on September 9, also focused on preparations for the upcoming Vice-Presidential election. A detailed presentation on the election process was shared, equipping MPs with insights to navigate the polls effectively. The event underscored the BJP’s strategic planning while balancing its response to the ongoing flood crisis.
The cancellation of the dinners has been widely appreciated as a meaningful gesture, reinforcing the NDA’s image as a coalition attuned to the hardships faced by citizens. As rescue and relief efforts continue in flood-hit areas, the leadership’s decision sends a strong message of unity and compassion during challenging times.
