A sudden scare unfolded on a Sahid Khudiram-bound Kolkata Metro train when smoke was detected in a coach at Chandi Chowk station on Thursday morning, sending commuters into a frenzy. The incident, reported around 8:15 am, caused significant panic among passengers, though no injuries or casualties occurred, according to Metro Railway officials.
A Metro Railway spokesperson told PTI that as the train halted at the station, the smoke prompted immediate action. “All passengers safely evacuated the affected coach, and the rake was vacated and sent to the carshed for a detailed inspection to determine the cause,” the official said. Authorities are investigating potential technical faults or external factors behind the incident, with early reports suggesting a possible electrical issue.
Despite the disruption, Metro services on the Blue Line, running between Dakshineshwar and Sahid Khudiram, continued seamlessly in both directions. The swift response from Metro staff ensured minimal impact on commuters, though the incident left many shaken. Regular passengers expressed relief at the safe evacuation but called for stricter safety checks to prevent future scares. The Metro Railway has assured the public that a thorough probe is underway to address concerns and maintain confidence in the system.
